Call for grant applications for International touring of Korean contemporary performing arts
I. What is Center Stage Korea - International Touring?
Center Stage Korea - International Touring is the international market and audience development project of Korean contemporary performing arts through supporting the distribution of productions. The Korea Arts Management Service, under the auspices of the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has been operating the Center Stage Korea grant program since 2007, with the aim that diverse performing arts of Korea become internationally acclaimed and that performing artists/companies enhance their competence.
In order to respond to the market demand and to stimulate Korean presence on the international stage, Korea Arts Management Service is calling for applications from Korean performing artists/groups and organizations whose project concerns the international touring of contemporary productions.
II. General description
1. eligibility
Korean artists, groups and organizations planning international touring in at least two different countries, cities, or venues submit grant application to the Korea Arts Management Service.
* The project may include additional program such as residency and workshop as well.
2. period
The project must occur between April 2012 and December 2012.
3. grant conditions
1) When the application is successful, KAMS allocates the grant directly to the Korean performing group(s). Center Stage Korea only funds the whole or part of the international flight and cargo. KAMS makes a decision on the grant amount based on the production scale. The maximum amount of grant is KRW 40,000,000.
2) The Center Stage Korea grant can cover up to 15 touring members including staff crew, per one performing group. When the entire budget of transportation exceeds the grant amount, the international presenter and(or) Korean performing group(s) take responsibility for any excess in budget.
3) Korean performing groups and their international presenter(s), when they are selected as the beneficiary of the grant, have the duty of reporting to the Korea Arts Management Service within one month after the implementation of the project.
4. remark
1) Projects with no official guarantee (performance fee) or receiving funds from other Korean governmental institutions including Arts Council Korea and Korea Foundation are ineligible to apply.
2) The project is highly recommended to be associated with other diverse components, including workshops and other exchange activities with local artists or communities.
3) Points will be added to the groups/productions as follow.

Ø Korean productions presented at KAMS’ cooperative festivals**
* KAMS, under the auspices of the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, has organized the Performing Arts Market in Seoul (PAMS) every October since 2005. PAMS Choice is the official selection of PAMS, selected by a Selection Committee composed of Korean professionals from the field. Visit www.pams.or.kr
** ① AssiFe, ② Busan International Performing Arts Festival, ③ Chang Mu International Arts Festival, ④ Festival BO:M, ⑤ MODAFE (International Modern Dance Festival), ⑥ SIDance (Seoul International Dance Festival), ⑦ SPAF(Seoul Performing Arts Festival), and ⑧ Uijeongbu International Music Theatre Festival are the platform festivals in partnership with KAMS.
III. How to apply
1. who can apply
Korean performing artists/groups submit application along with the required material(s) by post.
2. when you apply
There are two deadlines.
1) 6 Feb.~ 20 Feb., 2012 ( For the project occurring between April 2012 and December 2012)
2) 20 Feb.~ 22 Jun., 2012 ( For the project occurring between August 2012 and December 2012)
3. document to submit
1) Two copies of the application
2) Invitation letter(s) or contract mentioning the performance fee and other conditions provided by international partners
3) Introduction of the international partner (Additional documents such as program book and visual material, introducing international presenter(s)’s past programs/projects can be helpful.)
4) Video clip, visual material, reviews or press released for the performance
5) A copy of business license for Korean performing artists/groups
IV. After you apply
1. screening
The screening panel will screens and assesses the applications according to the criteria. While the application may meet the assessment criteria, you are not guaranteed support.
2. selection criteria
a. Feasibility/effectiveness of the implementation of the project
b. Effective tour planning to raise awareness in regard to Korean artists/productions locally and internationally
c. A clear commitment from international presenters: International organizer(s)’s commitment to Korean artists to strengthen their competence both through artistic development and through economic contribution with reasonable fee
d. The impact of the project on developing future international opportunities for the artist/company and the importance of the project in enhancing the career of the artist/company
3. final announcement
KAMS announces the recipient projects of the ‘Center Stage Korea Grant’ in February 2012 and in June 2012 by posting on KAMS’ website and sending an e-mail with an official letter of confirmation to the selected.
V. After the implementation of project
The beneficiary of Center Stage Korea grant has a duty of submitting project report to Korea Arts Management Service within one month after the implementation of the project.
