Project Introduction
In February - April 2011 Sandra Parker Dance completed the development of a new project The Recording with funding assistance from Arts Victoria and the City of Port Phillip. The Recording is a full-length performance about making a film. A dynamic collaboration with leading Australian and International artists, the stage becomes a film set as cast and crew are placed on stage together. Three performers prepare for, rehearse and perform scenes based on ''actor movement'' while the trick of immersive, full-blown cinematic soundscapes and emotional, dramatic lighting transform the action – a rehearsal becomes cinema – but what happens when the scene is over?

SANDRA PARKER DANCE is the dance company of Australian choreographer Sandra Parker. Sandra Parker Dance made its US debut in January 2007 at the Joyce Soho, New York, where she presented her highly successful 2005 work The View From Here, aspartofthe Australia Council for the Arts, Dance Down Under promotion at APAP where she was a featured artist. In late 2007 she
created Play house for the Guandong Modern DanceCompany, whilst on an Asialink residency in the Chinese cities of Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Beijing. In the same year Sandra began creating a new work Outo flight at Gas work sin Melbourne, supported by Arts Victoria and the Besen Foundation. The work was subsequently completed and premiered at Gasworks in March 2009 with
support from Arts Victoria, the Besen Foundation and the City of Port Phillip. The work was nominated for five green room awards and was cited as "one of the best works" for 2009 by Herald Sun critic Stephanie Glickman and only one of two works "Commended" by M Magazine (The Sunday Age), in their end of year wrap for 2009.


SANDRA PARKER is one of Australia’s most outstanding choreographic artists whose work aims to expand the possibilities of cross-art form, and cross-cultural collaboration, creating intimate and rigorously detailed works for audiences in Australia and internationally. Her work has been presented in Australia, France, Portugal, Germany, China and the US. Since graduating from Rusden College majoring in dance and drama, Sandra has persued a career as a Choreographer, Performer, Teacher and Director. Working in the capacity as a freelance artist, as the Artistic Director of the iconic Australian company Dance Works from 1998-2006, and now independently as the Director/Choreographer of Sandra Parker Dance, her work has been supported by numerous grants from
the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Victoria, the Australia China Council, the City of Melbourne, the City of Port Phillip and the Besen Family Foundation. Sandra Parker''s work has been presented in Australia at the Sydney Opera House, Brisbane Powerhouse, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Salamanca Arts Centre (Hobart) and at the Melbourne International Festival for the Arts 2000, 2002, 2003. International projects include an Asialink residency to Tokyo, Japan with choreographer Kei Takei, and the creation of ‘Span’ for
Danspace, St Mark’s Church, New York with Choreographers Bebe Miller, Susan Braham and Australian Shelley Lasica, the creation of Play house for Guangdong Modern Dance Company, and a video installation for Red Gate Gallery, Beijing. In 2005 Sandra pitched her work ‘The View From Here’ at the International Society of Performing Arts Presenters Conference. Recent projects include a three-month, funded ‘Housemate’ residency at Dancehouse, Melbourne, culminating in the presentation of a new work ‘Document’.
