International Artist-in-Residency and showcase Project-New Approaches, New Audiences
Under the theme of “New Approaches, New Audiences”, AsiaNow has embarked on a new project emphasizing fresh, new ideas for performing arts and new approaches to understanding theater. One of the main objectives for AsiaNow productions is to draw new and young audiences to theater by introducing them to a different world of theater that understands and excites their twenty-first century artistic sensitivities. This program is an artist-in-residency program for sound, video, dance, theatre, site-specific performance, interdisciplinary, sculpture, technology/ media, photography, community art, and installation artists. In 2011, July, AsiaNow commissioned by Asian Arts Theatre organized three day conference and workshop where four international artists from New Zealand, Norway, UK to meet Korean artists and producers to develop new idea and to produce wonderful works in Korea.
New Approaches, New Audiences 2012
The New Approaches, New Audiences project is designed to share new and fresh ideas of promising international artists with Korean and Asian artists. For 3 weeks in September, 2012, artists will share ideas and exchange workshop
and they will present their work-in-progress showcases. This program is commissioned by The Asian Culture Complex Asian Arts Theatre and will be association with Performing Arts Marketing in Seoul(TBC), Kyoto Experiment(TBC, Japan) and 21st Century Museum of Art, Kanazawa(TBC, Japan)
Date: 3 weeks in september
Venue: For Workshop and Residency / Asian Arts Theatre in Gwangju, Mullae Arts Factory in Seoul (TBC)
For Showcases / Performing Arts Market in Seoul (TBC), Festival Experiment in Kyoto (Tbc, Japan), 21st Century Museum of Art, Kanazawa (TBC, Japan)

What we are looking for?
1. Artists (Individual and group)
Open to emerging and experienced artists working with sound, video, dance, theatre, site-specific performance, interdisciplinary, sculpture, technology/media, photography, installation and community art.
2. Creative Producers and Partner Organizations
Producers and Organizations who are interested in taking part in curatorial process to select artists and co-hosting this project in the future. Deadline for 2012 program: The application deadline is December 20, 2011
AisaNow is a company founded in 2005 to creatively develop, produce and present innovative and exciting Asian contemporary physical theatre, dance and interdisciplinary arts. The company runs international artist’s residency and workshop programs, does international co-productions and is also strongly involved in creative development, consultation and performing arts management.

Kyu CHOI’s professional carrier started with the Chuncheon International Mime Festival where he focused on programming and artist development, while at the same time helping the festival grow from a small event to one of Korea’s best known performing arts festivals. Kyu founded AsiaNow productions in 2005 in order to develop, produce and present innovative and exciting Asian contemporary physical theatre, dance and interdisciplinary arts, including “A Midsummer Night Dream” (Yonghanza
Theatre Company) and “Woyzeck”(Sadari Movement Laboratory), both now internationally acclaimed with extensive touring schedules. He also works as a project director and facilitator with Moving Space Project, Sound +: Pansori, New Approaches, New Audiences residency and workshop, which are an artist residency program for hybrid performance which provides artists with a new platform where they can work with international artists across disciplines. Kyu has developed the Creative Producers’ Network in Asia since 2007 and organized the Creative Producers’Network Forum in Seoul 2009 in association with PAMS (Performing Arts Market in Seoul). He sits on the steering committee for The Asian Performing Arts Presenters’Network and an international version of Time-Place-Space, an artist residency program for hybrid performance arts in Australia. He has taught international touring and
producing theatre at the Korea National University of the Arts, and has worked as a consultant for Korean arts management and theatre development.
