Introduction
In 2009, Festival Jang has revived in 12 years, and has become the festival representing Namsan at its 2nd year. It aims to merge artistic forms, encounter with new artists and support communication with public, by escaping conventional artistic logic and launching new genres of art. Under the theme of Media and performing arts, there will be 6 experimental performances, either international or domestic, limitless of genre or forms using media or using media itself joined with performance. Moreover, Mullae Art Factory and Seoul Art Space are added as venues including Daehakro and Namsan, which will increase the festive atmosphere.

1. 'The Malady of Death' by Haegue Yang
Experimental staging, homage to Duras by a painter
Original Author : , Marguerite Duras
- Schedule : 20:00, Sat. September 11th - Sun. September 12th
- Introduction : Haegue Yang,a Korean artist working mainly in Germany has escaped from the galleries and exhibitions, and has even rewrote and directed by Marguerite Duras. Unlike the original short novel, the play is narrated by ‘the woman’, opening up new possibilities to combine literature, fine art and theatre.

2. 'The Wall' by Jungyub SHIN
Various experiments of media art within performing arts and performing arts inside media art

- Schedule : Remixed Conventions, 20:00, Thu. September 16th - Fri. September 17th
                The Blended Eyes 2, 18:00, Sat. September 18th
- Introduction : The leading Korean VJs perform in collaboration with latest technology. The 1st version will be initiated with various and experimental forms derived from Korean music, traditional Indian dance, Opera, abstract art, theatre, contemporary dance and media art. The 2nd ver. will be a jam concert of all VJs and sound artists who participated in this project.

 

3. 'A time for Ksana' by Donggu YOON
Reflection of Space, Namsan Arts Center
- New space inside old space, Conflict and Conversion

- Schedule  20:00, Thu. September 23rd - Fri. 24th
                14:00, Sat. September 25th
- Introduction : Revived performance at Namsan Arts Center from installation at an old rotating printing room, DongA news  in 2002. A performance continues to happen inside a cable car, crossing the performing area up and down, however no audience is allowed to see the inside. Only images from cameras installed inside the cable car reveal each performer. Ultimately, this alienated and isolated space turns around the performing area becoming another installation itself.

 

4. '원<一,One>' by Injung JUN
Dance in revival of the late  Hyunki PARK, leading Korean  video artist

-  Schedule :  20:00, Thu. September 9th - Fri. September 10th
                   15:00, Sat. September 11th
- Introduction: 'Mandara',which was a porno projection on a buddhist painting in 1997, has come into light again with the movements of dancer Injung JUN, national intangible property Yongtaek KIM and Junghee KIM. Analogue videos are reflected onto the venue from time to time in the midst of smoke, where the ritual of Pyulshin from the east sea takes place. The contrast of projection based on the latest technology and elements of low technology merges the movements of traditional dance masters and the vigorous contemporary dancer, making it even more impressive.

 

5. 'Love', Kirari☆Fujimi & Twelfth Tongue Theatre Studio
Extreme sound and moves in search of new direction of performance.

- Schedule : 20:00, Fri. September 17th,
            15:00, Sat. September. 18th - Sun. September 19th
- Introduction : 'Love ver. 2010' is an extended production of Tada Junnoske's series of 'Love', which has been running for years in Japan in diverse versions, and this time with 2 actors from Korea and Japan. Words and movement, extracted from ordinary life, is repeated and expanded, in the way of confirming the similarity of both languages and living habits, as well as colliding the difference, altogether containing the modernity of both. On stage of 'Love ver. 2010', strong beat of rock and latest groovy dance music accompanied by powerful moves will attract young audience with solid energy, also console their existent solitude.


6. Private Collection by Chansook CHOI & Momggol & Elias Cohen
Hold faces with continuos struggle of life
- Schedule : 19:00, Sat. September 11th - Wed. September 15th
- Introduction : Faces conveying their lives, especially those of elders indicating struggles of life, are projected on plastic bags all over the stage, making noise and movements corresponding with their lives. Performance will take place in Mullae, where artists and factory workers exist together as if stranded plastic bags float along with the wind along the alleys. This production will express the new physical communication on faces of local senior citizens.
