Sori is Korean for “sound” and this festival, now in its 10th year, celebrates the sound of voices and music. Centered around pansori, it is the leading arts festival, promoting musical exchanges between Korea’s traditional music and contemporary music. In Jeonju, Every autumn, it features 100 officially sanctioned performances and 100 performance open to any artist. It tries to be a truly distinct festival breaking the barrier between Korea’s traditional music and world music. From fringe artists to the most prestigious musicians, everyone is welcomed to join, The sori in pansori contains the root meaning of the word; an early form of music, The Jeonju International Sori Festival pursues the nature and origin of music with celebrated pansori singers ranging from those cherished for their traditional style to those famed for experimental adaptations. The festival also features popular Korean singers from various genres and world-renowned orchestras, soloists, and choirs from abroad as well as festivals within the festival for.chidren, fringe artists, Korean classical opera students and street concerts.
