TIMF(Tongyeong International Music Festival)
|
TIMF’s program covers Western classical music; folk music, such as Korean traditional music; acoustic work; music outside the mainstream; and contemporary music. Performances include professional orchestral, chamber, ensemble and solo pieces by virtuosi. The Festival’s main emphasis is on Western and contemporary music, but it opens its door to the music of the world as well. TIMF’s spirit of challenge comes from Isang YUN, the great composer and Tongyeong native, who achieved international artistic acclaim while working in Germany in the 1970s. He enthusiastically strove to translate Korean and Asian music dialectically, chemically and structurally so it could be expressed on Western instruments. To honor his spirit, TIMF follows four principles: 1) play and study Isang YUN’s works, 2) encourage talented musicians who are familiar with Yun and other contemporary composers, 3) stay abreast of worldwide musical trends and reflect them in the festival programs,4), discover emerging talent that is ambitious and visionary. |
