Company Introduction
Black String, the Korean contemporary ensemble, based on Korean traditional music and improvisational music kind of jazz, attempts to create a unique language through Asian intuition and musical idiom. They were founded in 2011 Korea-UK cultural exchange program titled “UK Connection” project and have been performing at the Jarasum International Jazz Festival (South Korea) and London Jazz Festival (UK) in collaboration with UK artists.

Performance Detail
’Mask Dance’ was inspired by ’Cheoyong’, an ancient Korean story about a character who wore a mask and chases other kinds of spirits. The bizarre, exotic and mysterious images of Cheoyong’s story were presented dynamically through music. The amplified sound of the Geomungo and its modern, avant-garde performances bring the listeners a different, unexpected, opposite buzz. In addition, Korean traditional music and jazz, combined with the link of improvisation, are opening up new possibilities and horizons for contemporary Korean music.
