Platform Supporting International Presentation & Circulation
Performing Arts Division, Korea Arts Management Service
As we are recovering from the aftermath of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, many activities and projects in the field of culture and arts, which had to go back and forth between the in-person and contact-free settings, are now settling into the in-person setting and revitalizing. The performing arts sector is also expecting to see many people visiting venues to watch a wide range of works presented in 2023. Against this backdrop, the Performing Arts Planning Team of the Korea Arts Management Service is working with artists, organizations, and professionals in the performing arts sector to carry out its projects as follows.

Running Platforms for International Presentation
Running platforms for international presentation: PAMS(Performing Arts Market in Seoul), JKM(Journey to Korean Music), and SPAF(Seoul Performing Arts Festival)
This year, PAMS and JKM focus on their role as platforms for circulation, information exchange, and the networking of excellent Korean works. This year’s event, which will be held in October, brings together Korean and International artists, arts groups, producers, promoters and presenters who have works to be circulated in the Korean and International performing arts markets or have ideas that can be turned into works. Through the open calls of PAMS Choice and JKM Choice scheduled in March, a showcase space will be provided during PAMS along with a consultation.

Developing international cooperation partners: KAMS Connection to lay the foundation for international breakthrough
KAMS Connection is a project that supports performing arts organizations with their pre-research for entering international markets and developing co-productions. This year, the support is provided in two categories, autonomous research and cross organizational research. The former is for artists, art groups and producers who are planning for co-productions with the aim to circulate them in the international market. The latter is for co-development of joint projects between KAMS and organizations from Korea and overseas. Research expenses, networking sessions, and consultation opportunities are provided to individuals or organizations selected through an open call.

Supporting international tours and showcase participation: Center Stage Korea (CSK) and support for showcasing at international art markets
Support is provided to Korean performing arts groups so that they can present their works in renowned international festivals, markets and venues. The goal of this support is to facilitate their breakthrough into international markets. In particular, the priority is to strengthen cooperation between KAMS and international promoters and presenters, and support performing arts groups to officially receive a reasonable invitation fee. Both support programs select recipient art groups though an open call, and their main support is to cover expenses for the groups including international travel. In particular, this year’s support programs are designed to earmark applicants that have previously been selected for showcases by PAMS and Journey to Korean Music, so that groups that have experienced a showcase in Korea though KAMS can take their experience further and take their works to the international stage.
