Spotlight Survey on South Korean Performing Arts Market in 2018 2020-02-27

Korea Arts Management Service(KAMS) published a report about the Survey on The Performing Arts in 2018. According to the KAMS, total sales of performing arts in South Korea came to 823.2 billion won in 2018, up 1.2% from 2017. It was the second yearly expansion in a row since 2016, the beginning of data collecting about the performing arts market when the corresponding figure came to 748 billion won.

In terms of ticket sales by genres, Musical accounted for the most significant share in the market for the performing arts, having recorded ticket sales of 218 billion won, or 55.7% of all ticket sales of ticket sales for South Korea’s performing arts. And it was followed by Play with 74.3 billion won in ticket sales(19%) and Classical music concert with 27. billion won(7.1%).

In 2018, a total of 32,568 shows hit the stage for a total of 152,919 performances, while 29.8 million audiences bought tickets for the performing arts.

This data was the result of a survey on 2,127 sample groups, including local performing organizations and performance facilities, conducted from May 17 to September 17 in 2018.
