Artists
The traditional genre of "pungryu" from the Jeolla Province of Korea is the epitome of the region’s traditional folk arts, characterized by spirited energy, delight and sincerity. This regional art genre may not have received the attention it deserves in Korea, and we hope to offer a performance that will introduce international experts to a broader and deeper range of Korean musical sensibilities. "Yegimu" is a dance that has been passed on through associations of gisaeng, and "Jeolla Samhyeong Yukgak" is an art form that has been cultivated amid much hardship: the fact that these genres have survived and thrived is evidence of the dedication of local masters to their arts. Although not included in the current performance, dances such as "Honam Sanjo" and "Geumcheonmu" and "Jeolla Samhyeon Seungmu" will be featured at the Jeonju International Sori Festival. We are committed to introducing Jeolla region’s traditional arts to the world.
