Artst Introduction
The name "MuRR" was coined by combining the words "music," "rest" and "refresh," words which describe this innovative group’s aspiration to offer a respite for their audience and recharge their hearts with traditional Korean music(known as "gukak"). The group harmonizes traditional instruments including piri, dae-piri, saeng-hwang, taepyeongso, big drum, and yang-geum and also incorporates Western instruments such as handpan, cajon, and piano. MuRR has been pioneering a unique musicla style that audiences have described as "intense gukak" "gukak blues" and "gukak jazz."
The group is working on the Daldal-Daldal Project, in which they release at least one track per month in single albums. They compose pieces inspired by diverse sources near them(their relation to the local community, seasons, emotions), expressed through traditional Korean instrumental sounds and their flair for grace notes. The group composes, edits, and records all their own works.
Showcasing the pieces released through the Daldal-Daldal Project, the group has organized and performed in Daldal Concerts. Each member is skilled in at least two instruments, and offer sincere and alluring performances.
They hope to offer an intimate gukak that gives voice to contemporary experiences and elcits the empathy of their audiences. They hope their creative compositions will forge a new tradition of folk songs("minyo") and bring joy to audiences for decades and centuries to come.
