Talking about the confusion, loss and representation of identity that we go through between the dual perspectives of “seeing and being seen.”
About performance
We’ve gotten used to pretense and falsity, losing our individualities and colors long ago. Immersed in acting out the ‘fictional me,’ the task of finding my true self is put off again.
Right now, we don’t confront our bare faces, and our assumptions about future are replacing the present tense. People all have weaknesses, but one’s own thoughts and individuality make it possible to compensate them. Thus, it’s all the more urgent to face who we are. How am ‘I’ seen and how do I see? The piece throws a fundamental question about one’s essential identity.
Choreographer Dong-kyu Kim and LDP(Laboratory Dance Project), Korea’s top-notch contemporary dance company, give a fascinating take on the specificity and ambiguity of dance language, speaking to the public while maintaining artistic quality. Dong-kyu Kim’s Look Look V2 is intended to be developed into a repertory through SPAF, aiming to expand the audience range and promote performing arts in general.
Synopsis
There are two men on a small boat. One man says that he has already left with the wind and is not here anymore. The boat sets sail, and the two men start to engage in a conversation about death. As the waves get rougher and fog thicker, one man jumps into the sea. Two men, standing on the boat. The dead man says: “I’ve left,” “I am the wind.” When asked why he has left, he answers it was because he was too heavy.
