Souls that are losing their light – but they try to catch their breath and stretch out

In order to remember the passion that has been forgotten

About performance

tells the story of people who are desperately trying to overcome seemingly unsolvable hardships. It shows the hope that, if we exercise our willpower to tackle each obstacle we face, our entire life journey can be in itself a beautiful dance. The movements deliver the angst and will of today’s youth, and the support and comfort for them.

Synopsis

Witnessing the never-ending hardships of life, we embrace the existential sorrow of unreachable liberation. At some point, we started to feel a sense of loss, something we didn’t need to in the first place, and search for our own path. We wake up. We wait for bodily sensations while surrounded by numerous breaths – as if getting out of the shell and enduring until the soaked wings dry. It is a basic instinct to wait for the wings to dry and get ready to fly – which seems to be lost in us now. But we try to catch our breath and stretch out - to remember the passion that has been forgotten.

About company

Ninety9 Art Company

Ninety9 Art Company has been working on repertoires themed around the dance <1ounce(28.4g)> that touches the soul. Their major works , , and , tried to express the weight of one’s soul ’1 ounce(28.4g),’ said to be as light as a thin piece of noodle. Recently, they’ve presented with hearing-impaired people, taking part in 2018 KIADA(Korea International Accessible Dance Festival). Asking questions about fundamental movements that are more worthwhile and meaningful, Ninety9 is constantly challenging themselves, keeping in mind ’99,’ the number that symbolizes their devotion.

Reviews

Their movements take on a contemporary touch yet filled with the breaths, rhythms and compressed moderation unique to Korean dance. Something that has been neglected and blamed for being unsuitable to today’s taste and lifestyle is actually drawing in the audience more intensely… And what’s at the center of it is Hye-rim Jang’s remarkable movements.
