Performance Info

Intro

A man takes a long rod on his shoulder and draws a cart carrying his luggage

Synopsis

A man uses a long rod to drag a cart, to sing, to climb up and down somewhere, or even to cross a tightwire. At one point, the man stands up with a long rod and starts to climb it slowly...

We hear a quiet song somewhere. A pansori singer sings the song that the man sang on the street.

"I, BONG n JOULE" is a work that combines the circus performance of a rod (Chinese pole) and a string (tightwire) with traditional tunes of the gayageum and daegeum. The performance expresses the process of becoming free through repetitive movements such as going up and down. Especially, the melody was improvised in the process of preparing the performance and was integrated into the whole work along with crude lyrics. The man who constantly goes up looks like today’s people living in uncertainty.
