Experiment of Physical Empathy and Interaction

About the performance

The performance experiments to see if the physical sensation, which has been stored in individuals’ experience, can be developed into “collective sensation” to enable communication among people. The performers transfer their sensations by using physical sensation felt through their skins, and muscular sensation connected to the bodily movements. Physical sensation used during the performance connects the performers and the audiences, and this sensation is transformed into unfamiliar impression. This work thus attempts to see how the others’ sensations can be linked to the individuals’ experiences.

Intention of the Choreography

Dealing with sensation - which is in the realm of unconsciousness, and with collectivity – which is in the realm of consciousness, Sense of Darkness approaches ‘empathy’ that works between a person and others. Asking a question about what will remain and what will disappear, this body-based performance explores the potential of the body.
