About the performance

The play depicts plainly and dynamically what happened at Brothers Home in Busan, Korea in the 1980’s during the military regime. Closely combining the elements of documentary and drama, the performance arouses the audiences’ interest and dramatic speed. The performance tries to keep the audiences away from ethical or sentimental approaches to the work, but it enables the audiences to focus on the truth hidden behind the incident.

Synopsis

One day, a boy is forced to go to Brothers Home with his sister, not knowing the reason. Starting with the boy’s point of view, the play expands to the perspectives of the different people taken to the interment camp. The people who keep their legal status as citizens were taken to the place and interned in there which is in fact illegal. This was to fulfill the purpose of the military regime and to satisfy the interest of corrupt local officials and people who obey to them. Inside this place, people were imprisoned, beaten and forced to work. Under these circumstances, hundreds of people died and were buried secretly. The play asks how such a tragic thing happened to him and how it could happen, and who is responsible, in a very intriguing way.

Theater Company Bomnal

Since its foundation in 2006, the Theater Company Bomnal has steadily pursued intense and sensitive pathos with simple and controlled stylistic beauty, poetic and musical lines and biting black humor. While pursuing theatrical minimalism, they have also made efforts to make creative stages by combining different genres such as the performing arts, music, traditional and popular culture in a wide spectrum of possibilities. The Company’s ‘raison d’être’ lies in its ceaseless attempts and experiments to create the most Korean and the most contemporary stages at the same time.
